SPECIAL OLYMPICS
SPECIAL OLYMPICS GB
Here at Wirral Riding Centre we hold the North West regions branch of SOUK equestrian team. Our team ride and train together every week with Debbie, the head coach, and have the chance to compete in regional competitions.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Our club has more than 15 riders and we pride ourselves on building athletes confidence and self belief alongside with meeting new friends and having fun in a safe environment.
Special Olympics came to Wirral over 20 years ago and we welcome athletes from all over the North West, some of our members compete internationally and have won gold and silver medals in Los Angeles and Berlin. We are delighted to be holding a regional event here at WRC in April and have plans to again compete in the summer competitions. This year we travelled to another centre in Sheffield and the team won a huge selection of medals over the 2 days in horse care, dressage and working trails.
If you are interested in joining our team please speak to Debbie or Chrissi for more details
